Andy Roddick’s 30th birthday was this past Thursday, and the tennis pro celebrated by announcing he’ll retire after the 2012 U.S. Open. What do we know about this stellar athlete and his 12-year career?

-Roddick was born in Omaha, Nebraska and picked up his interest in tennis from his two older brothers. His idol was Andre Agassi.

-After struggling to establish himself in professional tennis, Roddick broke out big in 2003, winning his first Masters Series title and coming in second at the U.S. Open. At 21, he became the youngest American player to rank #1 in the sport.

-Roddick has a notoriously short temper, often taking out his frustrations on umpires and linesmen.

-In 2003, Roddick hosted “Saturday Night Live,” the only male tennis player to do so.
