Mariah Carey has a brand new job….
Just a week after the exits of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, TV’s most popular reality show has a new judge. Superstar diva Mariah Carey will be sitting at the judge’s table when the new season of “American Idol” begins in January!
Fox President Kevin Reilly made the big announcement on Monday at the TV Critics Association’s summer press tour, stating, “It’s the biggest recording artist that any of these shows have ever had. It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded only hours ago. Not being the only game in town, we need to keep things fresh.”
Carey told reporters by speakerphone, “I am so excited to be joining Idol. I wish I could have been there myself to tell you. It all kind of just happened real quickly. I can’t wait to get started in a couple months…I will see you in January!”
This is hardly a surprise, since Carey has been one of several big names brought up over the last few weeks as a possible new judge. Now the next item on the “Idol” agenda will be deciding who joins her on the panel. Veteran judge Randy Jackson is still a question mark, and one other star is yet to be named. One likely contender is former “Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert.
We shall see. Either Carey’s husband Nick Cannon was completely wrong about Idol not being able to afford the superstar….or they may be paying her $40 million?? We’ll soon find out.
