Sly Stallone should be on top of the world right now, after getting an enthusiastic reception by fans at last week’s Comic-Con convention, but instead he’s grieving the death of his oldest son, Sage. The body of the 36-year-old was found in his L.A. apartment on Friday.

Today, Stallone sent a message to TMZ, requesting that the media allow his son to rest in peace. He wrote:

“When a parent loses a child there is no greater pain. Therefore I am imploring people to respect my talented son’s memory and feel compassion for his loving mother Sasha.

This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son’s memory and soul left in peace.”

One person who doesn’t seem ready to allow the Stallone family to mourn in private is the star’s 18-year-old nephew Edd Filiti, who posted a series of accusatory Facebook messages indicating Sage’s dad and stepmom had cut him out of their lives.

“Neither you [Stallone’s wife Jennifer Flavin] or he could return a phone call, which is all he wanted, his father. I know you don’t care what happened, but you’ll care when your squirming under the burning magnifying glass of public opinion…You people make me f*ckin sick.”

A family friend who requested anonymity claimed that Sage had been estranged from his famous dad in the days before his death. “Sage was not allowed in his father’s home and he admitted to other family members of his devastation that he’d seemingly been cut out of his father’s life.

“Sage idolized his father but they had become estranged in recent time. It crushed him.”

An autopsy has been performed on Sage Stallone, but results of toxicology tests won’t be released for a few weeks. Although there were no signs of foul play at the scene, the case of Stallone’s death is now in the hands of LAPD Robbery Homicide detectives.

Edd Filiti, you are complete trash. Like you’ve never had a fallout with your parents? That’s life. It happens, but then in time, with a few sometimes difficult but usually heartfelt apologies, you move beyond it and you’re still family. For Stallone’s son to have died tragically young is a horror your infantile mind is incapable of comprehending. For it to have happened during a period of unrest between father and son only makes it that much harder to deal with. And then they have to deal with an opportunistic narcisist like you. I’d say ‘shame on you’ but people like you don’t feel shame. The world never heard of you before you chose this tragedy as your disgraceful entrance to the public eye. May the world see you for the insolent, immature brat you are – and then never hear from you again.

Wow. Such passion in your words Ryan, but you’re completely right! If he really cared or was that upset…he would speak about it with family ONLY. He’s definitely seeking attention….unfortunately it’s working. I feel for the Stallone family :/ Thanks for reading.

Being estranged usually means you both care so much you can’t agree at that time. That does not make the love less. Maybe a little frustration, But your love last forever. I feel for the whole Stallone family. I believe he had an autistic brother and two little sisters. Please allow the family time to grieve in peace, When you lose a child you are never the same. They loved each other so much. How sad for them all.
