Tupac Shakur was born June 16th, 1971, and would have been 41 years old today. Unfortunately, we lost this extremely talented and influential artist at the mere age of 25. Tupac was only known by the public for a short time, but his incomparable legacy continues to carry on through each generation. Though Tupac often made headlines for his involvement in criminal activity, he’ll never be viewed by the masses as “just another thug”. Tupac was extremely educated, and he used his intelligence to send powerful messages through his music.
Rapping lyrics like:
“I wonder why we take from our women, why we rape our women, do we hate our women? I think it’s time we kill for our women, time to heal our women, be real to our women, cause if we don’t we’ll have a race of babies, that hate the ladies…that make the babies”
“Cops give a damn about a negro pull the trigger kill a n—- he’s a hero. Give crack to the kids who the hell cares one less ugly mouth on the welfare. First ship ’em dope & let ’em deal the brothers, give ’em guns step back watch ’em kill each other”
“Everyone’s ashamed of the youth cuz the truth looks strange. And for me it’s reversed, we left em a world thats cursed, and it hurts.”
These messages, plus others from Tupac still leave many of us in awe today. Tupac definitely used his privilege as a platform to address important issues in minority communities….which is why, he’ll never be forgotten.
But Tupac wasn’t always serious. He also was a known jokester who liked to have a little fun. Check out some of the videos below of Tupac having a good time!
