Roni Reports…

Red Tails, Producer George Lucas, and his BLACK woman!

The movie “Red Tails” did fairly well at the box office this past weekend, making almost $19 million, and coming in at number 2, right behind the film “Underworld: Awakening 3D”.

“Red Tails” is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, an all-black World War II fighter pilot squad. The film was made up of an all black cast, including oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr., oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard, singer Ne-Yo, and a few other new faces that did exceptionally well.

It was extremely important that this film produced good numbers at the box office, especially because famous “Star Wars” producer George Lucas put up almost 100 million dollars of his own money in order to distribute the film, after it was turned down by every single studio in Hollywood. The numbers needed to show that it is possible to show inspirational, informative, and educational Black films in theaters and still make money. Luckily, it did just that!

On a recent episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter”, George Lucas came on the show to discuss the film and it’s importance. While there, he brought his girlfriend of six years, Mellody Hobson, and they discussed what it’s like being in an interracial relationship.

Check out a sneak peek below:

Who knew?! George Lucas with a black woman?? $100 million to distribute a black movie?? Safe to say, he’s definitely one of my favorites!!
